Meemure - One of the best Trip for ever!!!!!

Meemure is a Village in Sri Lanka with a population of about 400. it is located near the boarder between Kandy District and Matale District in the Knuckles Mountain Range. meemure is one of the most remote Village in Sri Lanka with the only formal accesses via a 14Km travel the town of "loolwatta". There is nor cellular services available i the Village and there is nor direct mail delivery to the Village; a villager journeys each day to Thapal Junction to exchange Incoming and Outgoing apostle mail with a postmen.

"Lakegala" mountain is in Meemure Village. It is considered the place where king Ravana lifted the "Dadu Monara" or " Dhandu Monara". Residents of the Village depend on several staple crops including Pepper, Cardamom, Paddy and Ginger. Meemure Village owns an exceptional natural beauty. It is rich with natural beauty and Traditional Sri Lanka beauty.

• Numbers of days - Two day Journy

• Crew - Six (My friends in University)

•  Transport - To Hunnasgiriya By bus, From Hunnasgiriya to Loolwatta then by Bus and then by foot for Kaikawala  Village Temple, stay at the temple and next day to the Meemure by Foot.

• Route - Badulla - Kandy- Hunnasgiriya - Loolwatta - Kaiykawela - Meemure - (trough the Jungal) - Hettipola - Hasalaka - Mahiyanganaya - Badulla.

We started  our journey from Badulla at about 4.30 am and we come to the Kandy city at abut 8.00 am we had our braekefast from a small "thekade". After we visited around the Kandy city. After that we got in to a bus which goes to the"Teldeniy Town. From the town we got a lorry and went to the Hunnasgiriya. when it was 2.30 pmthen we had our Lunch there. From the Hunnasgiriya to Loolwatta by bus (only two vans come to the Hunnasgiriya in the morning and leave at about 1.30 pm, so we missed the van)

The Bus only for "Loolwatta" and then we started our log walking Journey.

We come to come to a little shop which located "Kaiykawela" Village (Kaiykawela is nearest Village to the Meemure). after big journey. The Villagers of Kaiykawela were so friendly and helpful.

We arrived to the Kaiykawela Temple at about 7.30 pm, accommodate for night. The "swameen wahanse" was very helpful to us.

Next day in the morning we started goes to the meemure, the Village located 4Km ahead from the Kaiykawela Temple.

We got into the Village when it was 7.30 a.m, and then we had our breakfast form a Village;s House.

Route to Meemure,

Meemure is approximately a 7 hour drive from Colombo, in an off road vehicle. First go to Kandy city which is 116 km away from Colombo. Then Kandy-Mahiyangana Road (A26) towards to Mahiyangana. Turn to Left from Hunnasgiriya Junction which is 35 km away from Kandy. Then go towards the Loolwatte Village which is 15 km away from Hunnasgiriya Junction. Then from Loolwatte it is about another 15 km to the Meemure Village.you can use village public van it is a marvelous experience to have,to that you should be at Hunnasgiriya junction around 11 clock .hiring vehicles from Hunnasgiriya would be expensive than village vehicle . The nearest Police station is Teldeniya Police. On your way to Meemure from Colombo you can see many Natural Sceeneries; among them Hulu Ganga (River), Victoria Reservoir, Teldeniya New Town (Teldeniya was flooded in filling the Reservoir behind the Victoria Dam, Mahaweli Project), Dothalugala Forest and Botanical Garden, Mini Worlds End, Coberts Gap (Attala Mottuwa) a place where lot of wind blowing to the other side, Meemure and Lakegala Mountain where King Rawana Lifted his Air Plane called Dhadu Monara. At the Meemure Village you can stay at “Dumbara Pini Bindu” Village Hall with Permission of village People. Also you can visit and have bath from a water fall and a stream. This is the place where Sri Lankan Film “Suriya Arana” Shooting. You can have climb to the Lakegala Mountain also which is full of Adventure. If you are Local Alcohol lover you can have “Ra,” local toddy made of Kithul Tree.
